Made for the cats nothing fits

If your cat weighs more than 6 kg, you've probably already tried a bag that was too small. This one is our answer to that exact problem.

The size large cats have been waiting for

Most carriers top out at around 5 or 6 kg. Beyond that weight, the cat can no longer turn round and the journey becomes an ordeal. 28 cm deep and 43 cm high: here, an 8 kg cat really has room to move. If yours weighs less than 6 kg, there's no need for this much room — the city cat backpack will be lighter and easier to handle day to day.

Head out, when you decide

The top panel unbuttons and folds back: your cat pokes their head through and looks around at your height, against your shoulder. You close it in a second if they get restless or if you're approaching a road. You stay in control.

Light for what it holds

1.25 kg for this volume is not much. With a 7 kg cat, that makes 8.25 kg in total, compared with almost 10 with an equivalent rigid shell. On an hour-long journey, the difference is very real for your shoulders.

Two closures, never just one

The large opening and the side window each have their own zip. A cat this size is strong enough to force a way out: check that both are properly closed before lifting the bag.

01 · The wide opening

They poke their head out, where you can see them

The top panel unbuttons across its full width. Your cat settles in, rests their front paws on the edge and watches, at your height.

Only do this somewhere calm, without taking your eyes off them, and close it as soon as they get restless: a cat who pokes their head out can get all the way out if frightened.

The opening

You lower them in, you don't push them.

A cat pushed head-first into a tunnel clings to the edges with both front paws, and remembers it next time. It's the moment that most often goes wrong.

Here, the top panel unbuttons across its full width: you lower your cat in vertically, in two seconds, without a struggle. At the vet's, the same panel allows an examination without having to lift them out.

Always open it in a closed room: the moment you open it is when a cat can escape.

The measurements are taken by hand by our supplier, with a stated tolerance of 1 to 3 cm. The measurement that matters for you is the depth, 28 cm: that's what decides whether your cat can turn round inside.

02 · Carrying

Carrying 8 kg without ending up bent double

Wide, padded straps, cushioned back, fleece-lined handle on top for short lifts. The reinforced base keeps the bottom flat, so the load stays centred instead of rolling to one side.

Tighten the straps well: a heavy bag carried too low pulls on your lower back. It should sit high, against your shoulder blades.

Will your cat fit?

This model is designed for cats up to 8 kg — the builds that standard sizes leave out. But two 7 kg cats can differ by ten centimetres in length: measure yours.

How to measure your cat

  1. Pop them on the scales, or weigh yourself with them, then without.
  2. Measure their length from nose to the base of the tail — not to the tip.
  3. Measure their sitting height, from the floor to the top of the head.

The real test: standing without lowering their head, turning round on the spot, lying down without touching both sides.

The three measurements to compare

Measurement How to measure On this bag
Weight On the scales, or you with them, then without. 8 kg maximum.
Length From nose to the base of the tail. 36.5 cm long.
Sitting height From the floor to the top of the head. 43 cm high.

This design is still a backpack, so taller than it is long. If your cat is well over 8 kg or measures more than 60 cm, measure them and compare before ordering.

Getting a large cat used to it

The bigger the cat, the smaller the margin for error. These four steps matter especially for them.

  1. Open everything, wide

Top panel unbuttoned, window open, bag on the floor. A large cat needs to see for themselves that they can go in and out freely.

  2. Let them get their bearings

Several days, without closing anything. Add a blanket at the bottom. An 8 kg cat who feels trapped struggles with real strength: don't rush this step.

  3. Close, then lift

When they stay calm in it, close both zips for a few seconds, lift the bag a few centimetres, then put it down and open it again. Make it a little longer each time.

  4. First outing, head inside

Keep the panel closed for the very first journey. Only open it once they stay calm — and never beside a road.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about the wide-opening backpack

My Maine Coon weighs 9 kg. Is it still doable?

It's on the limit, and we'd rather tell you so. The manufacturer states 8 kg. A 9 kg cat will physically fit, but will be cramped when turning round, and the total weight to carry will approach 10.5 kg. If your cat weighs more than 8 kg, measure them lying down from nose to the base of the tail and send us that figure: we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth it. Reply within 24 hours.

Is it really safe to let them put their head out?

Only somewhere calm, with their harness on and the lead in your hand, and without taking your eyes off them. A cat who pokes their head out can get all the way out if frightened: a barking dog, a car horn, and they're gone. Never do it near a road or in a crowd. If in doubt, keep the panel closed.

Will this size fit in an aircraft cabin?

No, very probably not. A height of 43 cm far exceeds what European airlines accept under a seat, generally around 20 to 25 cm. If flying is your main need, none of our bags can guarantee it — check the dimensions required by your airline and choose accordingly.

Does the nylon hold up against a large cat pushing?

Nylon resists pulling far better than lightweight fabrics, and the base is reinforced so it doesn't sag under the weight. However, like any soft bag, it won't withstand a cat who methodically scratches the same spot for weeks. The solution is getting them used to it, not the material.

How is it different from the foldable carrier?

Both are worn on the back. The foldable cat carrier states 9 kg for 33 × 28 × 40 cm unfolded; this one, 8 kg for 36.5 × 28 × 43 cm, with a large top opening so they can poke their head out. Choose according to how much room your cat needs: measure them, then compare the dimensions.

Can it be used for hiking?

For a walk of a few hours, yes. For a real day's hiking, the expandable cat backpack is better designed: it expands during breaks so your cat can stretch and move about, which makes all the difference over time.
