About us

Thirty products. Not three hundred.

Pelux is a cat concept store. We don't try to cover everything that exists for cats — we choose sparingly, and we stand behind every line of the catalogue.

Thirty products, across six families: harnesses and leads, carriers, beds and scratchers, cat trees, play and enrichment, food and water. Each one answers a real moment in a cat's day: going out, sleeping, scratching, climbing, playing, drinking.

Everything else, we left out. Deliberately, and we'll explain how.

01 — What Pelux is

Six families, and nothing else.

A pet shop organises by aisle and fills the aisles. We start from the cat's day, and stop once the family is covered.

Six families are enough. Once one of them is complete, we add nothing more to it — unless a product does better than another, in which case the old one goes.

  • Going out — 4 harnesses and leads, 7 carriers and carrier backpacks.
  • Sleeping and scratching — 9 beds, baskets, cat houses and scratchers.
  • Climbing — 4 cat trees, from the compact model to the 160 cm one.
  • Playing and drinking — 4 enrichment toys, 2 water fountains.

Seven carriers in the catalogue may seem a lot. Each one meets a different need: a cat who panics in the dark, a cat over 8 kg, a journey by bike, a cupboard where the bag has to fold away. If two products did the same job, one of them would go.

02 — How a product gets in

We say no by default.

The question is never “would it sell”. It's “does it deserve to stay in your living room for years”.

In practice, a product has to pass four filters. If it fails one, it doesn't get in.

  • Does it solve a real cat problem, rather than just fill a shelf?
  • Does the material stand the test of time — sisal, rattan, solid wood, breathable mesh, ceramic?
  • Is it still bearable to look at, once it's sitting in the middle of the room?
  • Can the supplier give the dimensions, the weights it supports and its limits of use?

On that last point, we don't always get our way. Two of our harnesses have no size chart in centimetres: the supplier has never provided one. We say so in black and white on the product pages rather than invent a figure, and we keep asking for it. It's a gap, and we'd rather it showed.

03 — What we refuse

The shortcuts we won't take.

An online shop has a little toolbox for making you buy faster. We've decided not to open it.

  • No made-up reviews. Most of our product pages show none, simply because there aren't any real ones yet.
  • No “top 10”, no in-house comparisons. We're not going to hand ourselves our own awards.
  • No false scarcity: no countdowns, no made-up “only 2 left”.
  • No guessed data. If a dimension is missing, the product page says so instead of rounding it off.

These choices cost us sales, we know. We keep them anyway: a shop that exaggerates once exaggerates all the time, and it always shows in the end.

04 — Living with it

Cat things are still living-room things.

A cat tree doesn't get put away at night. A basket, a fountain, a scratcher: these things stay put twenty-four hours a day, in the room you live in.

That's why material and colour matter as much as function. Rattan, light wood, ecru sisal, ceramic, linen, neutral fabrics. Nothing neon, no garish plastic when another option exists. Something you don't feel the need to hide when someone rings the doorbell.

We don't make these things and we won't pretend otherwise. We look for them, sort through them, document them as honestly as we can, and we answer when something isn't right. That's the job we lay claim to — the job of selecting, not of making.

Start with one family, not the whole catalogue.

If your cat stares out of the window, start with the harnesses. If they scratch the sofa, start with the scratchers. If they snub their bowl, start with the fountains.

Only thirty products: you can honestly browse them all in a few minutes.
