The bag for ordinary journeys
Not hiking gear, not a clinical travel crate. A backpack you can wear every day, with your cat inside when needed.
A bag you're happy to be seen with
The detail that changes everything day to day: this bag doesn't announce that it's carrying an animal. Buckled flap, satchel silhouette, understated colours. You can wear it to the office, to the vet or on the train without looking as if you're taking a cage along.
A mesh porthole window, not plastic
The round opening is closed with soft mesh, not a rigid bubble. Your cat can press their nose against it without bumping into anything, and air flows straight in at head level. It unzips completely if they'd rather put their head out.
Mesh on both sides
The large openwork side panels aren't just for ventilation: they let your cat work out where sounds are coming from. A cat who can get their bearings calms down faster than one who hears things without seeing them.
Real storage
The flap pocket swallows a health record, a folding bowl and a few treats. The side mesh pockets hold a small water bottle. You head to the vet with one bag instead of two.
01 · The look
Three colours that don't scream “pet shop”
Pearl grey, sand and pale aqua: three matt shades, paired with tone-on-tone straps and buckles. No paw-print pattern, no loud logo.
It's a deliberate choice. A bag you find beautiful, you leave out — and a bag left out is a bag your cat ends up accepting.

The look
You can't tell that it's a cat bag.
Satchel silhouette, coated canvas, flap pocket closed with two buckles. On the underground or in a queue, it passes for a city bag — and that's just how it should be.
The round porthole window is made of mesh, not plastic: more air, less of a shop-window effect for a cat who'd rather not be stared at.

39 cm high and 25 cm deep: this size suits cats of an average build well, up to around 6 kg. Beyond that, your cat will struggle to turn round — look at the wide-opening cat backpack instead.
02 · Carrying
1.34 kg empty, and that matters
On a carrier, every hundred grams of structure adds to your cat's weight. At 1.34 kg, this one remains among the lightest in its category without losing its structure.
The shoulder straps adjust in length, and the top handle lets you pick it up with one hand to set it down on an examination table.

Will your cat fit?
This bag measures 33 × 25 × 39 cm. It's designed for short urban journeys and a cat of average build. Measure yours rather than relying on their weight.
How to measure your cat
- Pop them on the scales, or weigh yourself with them, then without.
- Measure their length from nose to the base of the tail — not to the tip.
- Measure their sitting height, from the floor to the top of the head.
The real test: standing without lowering their head, turning round on the spot, lying down without touching both sides.
The three measurements to compare
| Measurement | How to measure | The reference point on this bag |
|---|---|---|
| Length | From nose to the base of the tail. | 33 cm long. |
| Sitting height | From the floor to the top of the head. | 39 cm high. |
| Shoulder width | From one shoulder to the other, standing, seen from the front. | 25 cm deep. |
The supplier states a 15 kg capacity: that's what the bag can hold, not the room your cat will have. Go by the three measurements above, and for a large build, turn to the wide-opening cat backpack, designed for up to 8 kg.
The first few times
A backpack feels different from a bag carried by hand: your cat can no longer see you. Here's how to get them used to it.
-
Put it down, open
Flap open, porthole window unzipped, in the room where they live. A beautiful bag is easy to leave out — make the most of it, that's half the work.
-
Turn it into a bed
Slip a familiar piece of fabric into the bottom. Until they sleep in it of their own accord, don't move on to the next step.
-
Close it and carry it, on your back
The feeling of being carried up high, with your back to them, is new to them. A few minutes around the flat is enough the first few times.
-
Go out somewhere calm
Avoid a busy street for the first outing. A quiet pavement, ten minutes, and you head home while everything is still going well.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us about the city backpack
How is it different from the expandable cat backpack?
Two different uses. This one is a city bag: light, understated, for short, frequent journeys. The expandable cat backpack extends when you stop so your cat can stretch out, which only matters on long outings — hiking, a full day outside. If what you need is the vet and the train, take this one.
Can my cat put their head out of the porthole window?
Yes, the round mesh unzips completely. But think before you let them: a cat that can get their head out can, with a little persistence, get the rest out too. Only do it somewhere calm, never near a road, and always keep a hand free.
Would a 7 kg cat fit?
They would get in, but they wouldn't be comfortable: 25 cm deep is tight for a cat of that size who wants to turn round. Our honest advice is to go for the wide-opening cat backpack, which is deeper and taller.
Does the canvas stand up to claws?
The coated Oxford canvas holds up well to rubbing and light rain. Against a cat deliberately clawing to get out, no fabric holds out for long — that's true of all soft bags. If your cat is at that stage, the work of getting them used to it matters more than the choice of material.
Are the pale aqua and the sand deep shades?
No, both are matt and muted: the pale aqua leans towards a pale sage, the sand towards a pinkish beige. They're colours designed to go unnoticed. Pearl grey remains the most neutral of the three.
And what if my cat hates watching the world go by?
Then this model isn't the right one: its large openwork panels give them a lot to see. For a cat who finds outside bustle stressful, the quilted carrier with a blackout flap is made for exactly that — you can plunge the inside into semi-darkness in one move.
